Common Mistakes Made In Video Editing

welcome

Are you planning to attend a video editing institute in Delhi or Learning the art of video editing? There are certain mistakes common with video editors and student alike, leaving the edited work askew. Here are a few of these mistakes to avoid so as to not to give the impression of a novice with your video edit.

  1. Pace Mismatch.

In every video editing, there are mostly two audio tracks, one for the voices and one for the music otherwise known as the background music. The matching of the music and the pacing of the shots go a long way in determining the level of expertise of the video editor.

Quick shots, whip pans and cuts in an action paced movies should be matched with fast-paced hip-hop, rock, dubstep music while slow transition dissolves, long shots and slower camera moves should be matched with slower pop, adult alternative, and jazz music. Without this simple mismatch, the effects, mood, and pace of the story would be lost and the resultant video would be a bland amateur work suitable only for the trash bin of the video editing suite.

The sync of both vocal and instruments is also something the video editing experts pride their expertise on. The vocal conveys the content and the instruments set the pace and mood, without a perfect sync, the effect of a film would be lost. Ensuring that the audio is also in sync with the video at all times is a common mistake that occurs especially when editing on a low-grade system that doesn’t meet up with the system requirements of the video editing software.

  1. Jerky and Incomplete Transitions.

The mark of a professional video editing is the complete absence of Jerky and incomplete transitions. They usually happen in flashes and give the audience an uncomfortable feeling as it interrupts the moods and flow of the film.  Zooming in on the timeline to ensure complete transitions is the best way to get these mistakes out of the way.

  1. Jump Cuts and Ghost Frames.

Jump cuts occur when a portion of the footage is cut making the video squashed together. This may be as a result of a mistake in the footage leading to a cut off that makes the remaining two parts squashed and creates a very visible jump in the flow of the film. Ghost frames, on the other hand, is when two footages are joined together with a transition effect that reveals some set of unwanted frames in the process of transitioning to the desired frames. Jump cuts usually happen in video edits of interviews and talk shows. This can, however, be remedied by expert cameramen, then syncing the footage with a cutaway shot.

  1. Graphics Blunders and stagger-Outs.

Most amateur video editors used fonts and colors that are gaudy and difficult to read. The general rule of “Less is more” applies to the use of effects and titles in video editing. Stagger outs are when different portions of the video start going out at different times towards the end of the footage due to improper syncing on the timeline. This is the most common mistakes made by amateurs in video editing. TGC India is a Video Editing Institute in Delhi.
